God is Great and Good!

Our theme for Frontlines 2019 - Flashback - is focused on remembering God. In Psalm 106, the author blames the continued failures and sins of the people of Israel on the fact that they forget God, his character, and his mighty deeds.

So, the aim for us this week is to do the important work of remembering!

(if you want to check out what worship has been like, make sure to check out the CVCYouth Facebook Page for some video)

Last night we had the honor of having CVC Founding Pastor, Rick Duncan, join us to teach. He focused on remembering who God is.

He started by explaining that if he told his wife, Maryanne, how much he loved her blue eyes and blonde hair, he would be in big trouble! She has brown eyes and brown hair!

In the same way, we need to love God for who he really is - not some idea of him that we develop in our minds. God has revealed himself in his Word.

Rick helped us wrestle with the truths that God is both wrathful and merciful. He is abounding in steadfast love for those who seek him and is a consuming fire to his enemies. God is perfectly both good and great! If God is only loving he is weak and will not protect and do justice for the poor and weak. He will not defeat evil. But if he is only wrath, then he is a bully. The God of the Bible is perfectly and beautifully both!!

He left us with this phrase to remember:
God is great, God is good, let us fear him as we should. God is great, God is good, let us love him as we should.

Late Night!!
We split the middle school and high school up last night for different late night activities.

The middle school students plated Minute to Win It games while the high school students battle it out in battle of the sexes!

We also had a visit from the Lerch's donut truck - one of the highlights of every summer camp!!

Morning Worship
Kevin joined us last night and led worship this morning. It has bee a unique joy to see Kevin come through the CVCYouth internship program, marry one of our CVCYouth ladies, and be hired at CVC. We love having him with us to lead worship!

This morning seniors Jareth Marlow, Aaron Ford, and Luke Hopkins gave the message.

Aaron started by explaining the importance of Christian community from Ecclesiastes 4. Then, Jareth shared the dangers of Christian community from Galatians 1. Luke followed up by explaining that we desperately need the community of believers to challenge and encourage us but that when we idolize that community or love belonging to a group of people MORE than Jesus himself, it creates problems.

They wrapped up with this take home phrase:

We must STRIVE for Christian community, but we must not IDOLIZE it.

Team Games
Our teams games continued after chapel with a game called Mission Impossible.

Teams had the gas of getting their whole team to the other side of the field without touching the ground. They had to have a "safe" item under their feet at all times.

I continue to be impressed with how well the teams are displaying team work and love for one another. We are preaching sun block and water and - for the most part - everyone is listening.

We have had a few minor bumps and bruises, but everyone is doing quite well. We have been blessed with beautiful days and

Next Up!

Pastor Josh will be joining us tonight to preach! We are excited to hear from the Word and be challenged. After group time tonight, our evening activity will be a pool party to relax a bit (and eat the leftover donuts).
